THE DESIGN CHALLENGE
Maximising a linear floor plan by integrating a multi-functional bay-window settee, a specialised backlit liquor bar, and extensive custom storage without reducing walkable floor space.
THE BRIEF & COLLABORATION: Where personal passion directs the lines of layout design.
Urban public housing in Singapore often forces a choice between open space and deep utility. When the owners approached Vitas Design SG, they brought a distinct lifestyle brief: they wanted a home tailored for regular hosting, requiring a dedicated home bar, custom tea appreciation zones, and expansive guest seating.
Instead of cluttering the floor plan with loose furniture pieces, the design team co-created a unified architectural environment with the clients. The resulting design treats carpentry as a tool to expand spatial volume, ensuring that specialised host elements integrate seamlessly into the daily rhythms of home life.
SEQUENTIAL SPATIAL WALKTHROUGH
1. THE COMMUNAL HUB: Living Lounge & Integrated Tea Zone
Expanding lounge comfort through continuous multi-functional bay carpentry.
The social pavilion immediately introduces an expansive, warm atmosphere by utilising the apartment's entire perimeter length.
• Smart Carpentry Integration: Rather than leaving the window perimeter underutilised, Vitas Design SG engineered a continuous, low-slung timber bay window settee that runs the entire length of the living area. This structural platform serves a triple purpose: it acts as massive concealed storage drawers, provides extra guest seating during gatherings, and functions as an intimate tea-tasting platform next to the main grey sectional sofa.
• Illumination Tactics: Clean white ceiling track lights complement warm perimeter downlights, allowing the family to effortlessly shift the mood from bright morning clarity to a soft evening glow.
2. THE ENTERTAINMENT CORE: Backlit Home Bar & Wine Lounge
Elevating host rituals with commercial-grade residential carpentry.
Transitioning into the core transition area, the design introduces premium, hospitality-focused features tailored for an avid collector.
• The Backlit Display Alcove: A custom-engineered home bar cabinet commands the entertaining zone. Wrapped in rich wood laminates, it features warm internal LED backlighting that illuminates floating glass shelves, turning a curated liquor collection into a brilliant design feature.
• The Integrated Walkway Flow: Directly adjacent along the main hallway, a matching custom floor-to-ceiling display pillar integrates a premium dual-zone wine chiller at base level. This smart layout positions refreshments right between the living lounge and the dining table visible in the background, optimising guest circulation.
3. THE ARCHITECTURAL TRANSITION & GALLEY KITCHEN
Softening structural boundaries while prioritising high-durability utility.
Before entering the culinary zone, the apartment showcases subtle carpentry details that elevate simple door frames into design moments.
• Fluted Arched Portals: The transitions between communal and utility spaces feature soft, custom-routed fluted paneling finished with organic geometric arches. This choice introduces tactile texture to the corridor walls.
• Streamlined Culinary Utility: The kitchen adopts a highly efficient linear gallery format. Upper storage is finished in warm vertical timber grains, while the lower handleless cabinets use clean off-white laminates to brighten the narrow space. Durable white solid-surface countertops run alongside a dark glass gas range, creating an easy-to-maintain workspace that opens directly into the service yard window for natural cross-ventilation.
4. THE PRIVATE SANCTUARIES & DUAL-STATION WORKSPACE
Translating minimalist design principles into highly organised personal rest zones.
The private quarters apply the home's signature warm-wood design language to individual storage and quiet remote productivity.
• The Primary & Guest Suites: The main bedrooms feature full-height wardrobes wrapped in uniform light timber laminates that stand flush against the wall planes to preserve floor space. Tufted fabric headboards in soft greys ground the beds, while custom open shelving alcoves provide clear display space for literature and art.
• The Integrated Study Gallery: A dedicated home office zone features a custom floating timber desk installed directly beneath bright window apertures. The workspace features hidden wire-management grommets and matching open book cabinetry, offering a quiet, distraction-free environment for remote corporate tasks.
MATERIALS & ACCENTS SPOTLIGHT: The tactile elements that tie the entertaining home together beautifully.
The design narrative maintains its premium feel across all rooms by adhering to a strict triad of material finishes:
• Warm Natural Timber Laminates: Applied continuously across the bay settee, home bar, and private wardrobes to maintain visual length and warm continuity.
• Commercial-Grade Warm LED Strip Lighting: Integrated inside the bar alcoves and cabinet displays to add depth and high-end hospitality character.
• Polished Light-Toned Flooring: Runs seamlessly through the living and dining corridors to reflect natural daylight deep into the interior floor plan.
THE VITAS DIFFERENCE
Why build a standard floor plan when your home can adapt to how you host?
This project perfectly demonstrates what sets Vitas Design SG apart from standard turn-key firms: the ability to transform a standard public housing template into a highly personalised entertainment suite. Where typical contractors simply fill a space with loose furniture or standard wardrobes that disrupt flow, Vitas Design SG actively crafts layout architecture.
By engineering multi-functional structural interventions—like the continuous timber bay-window platform that handles both seating and deep storage, and the custom backlit bar hub—the team proves that clever carpentry can unlock massive lifestyle value. Every element is meticulously aligned with your budget and daily timeline, ensuring your property matches your authentic social identity.
