THE DESIGN CHALLENGE
Balancing a streamlined, clutter-free lifestyle with the large-scale display requirements of an avid collector, without overcrowding the communal walkway.

THE BRIEF & COLLABORATION
When the owners of this Singapore public housing apartment approached Vitas Design SG, their brief presented a classic local dilemma. They needed a functional family home that felt spacious and clean, yet they possessed an extensive collection of large-scale display models that required prominent staging.
Instead of treating these keepsakes as clutter to be tucked away, our design team collaborated closely with the clients to integrate their passion directly into the architectural fabric of the home. The result is a highly tailored floor plan where custom joinery serves as both partition walls and a curated gallery.

SEQUENTIAL SPATIAL WALKTHROUGH
1. COMMUNAL LIVING AREA
The main living room establishes an immediate sense of scale and structural order. We engineered a massive, full-height media wall wrapped in tactile, straight-grain wood laminates.
• Smart Carpentry: The television is recessed flush into the cabinetry, flanked by integrated glass showcase segments. Recessed warm LED strip lighting runs horizontally, illuminating the curated models while drawing the eye across the room to create an illusion of greater width.
• Lifestyle Value: By lifting storage off the floor and anchoring it to a single architectural plane, the floor area remains entirely open. A low-profile modular sofa and clean-lined ceiling fan maximise the vertical clearance, turning the everyday lounge into a spacious retreat.

2. DEDICATED DINING GALLERY
Moving deeper into the communal layout, the dining zone functions as the true focal point of the home's unique identity.
• The Feature Wall: Facing a warm timber dining table is a massive, multi-tiered display cabinet. Sealed behind sliding glass panels, an entire miniature streetscape is perfectly preserved and illuminated.
• Design Execution: Dark charcoal framing outlines the glass inserts, grounding the lighter wood tones used throughout the flat. This layout transforms a simple dining corridor into an interactive gallery experience for family meals and guest entertainment.

3. GLASS-ENCLOSED HOME STUDIO
Adjacent to the dining area sits a dedicated workspace and music studio, structured to allow light to penetrate the deep floor plan.
• Spatial Flow: We replaced traditional solid masonry walls with architectural glass partitions and a casement glass door. This maintains a direct visual connection to the living area while offering acoustic privacy for work calls or acoustic music practice.
• Tailored Joinery: Inside, a expansive dual-seater floating desk spans the length of the wall, topped by hidden-handle overhead cabinets that conceal binders and peripherals seamlessly.

4. STREAMLINED CULINARY KITCHEN
The kitchen design transitions towards high-utility minimalism, focusing on a clean palette that mirrors the wood tones of the outer living spaces.
• Material Placement: Horizontal wood-grain laminate faces the lower and upper cabinetry, paired with a countertop that wraps into a handy breakfast ledge. A tinted glass backsplash catches the light, making maintenance effortless.
• Appliance Integration: From the built-in gas hob and matching hood to the dedicated microwave nook and integrated laundry alcove, every appliance has a designated carcass space to prevent countertop crowding.

MATERIALS & ACCENTS SPOTLIGHT
The success of this design relies on a highly disciplined palette of materials selected for longevity and visual continuity:
• Linear Wood Laminates: Applied across all major carpentry installations to establish a cohesive visual language from the kitchen entrance to the living room.
• Anodised Charcoal Framework: Used on glass partition tracks and display cases to add sharp, modern contrast against the organic wood tones.
• Warm 3000K Lighting: Strategically recessed inside display shelves and under cabinets to wash vertical surfaces with a soft glow, eliminating harsh shadows.
