THE DESIGN CHALLENGE
Overcoming the rigid, boxy footprints typical of Singapore public housing by introducing architectural curves, premium stone textures, and a highly fluid open-concept communal space that feels expansive while maintaining smart household zoning.

THE BRIEF & COLLABORATION: Softening Boundaries in Public Housing
Standard HDB layouts often present structural rigidness that restricts creative zoning. For this premium public housing project in Singapore, the homeowners collaborated with the interior designers at Vitas Design SG to craft a space that feels distinctly custom and unconfined. By reconfiguring the main living framework, replacing harsh corners with smooth architectural radiuses, and integrating luxury materials, the design breaks away from standard apartment expectations to deliver a refined urban home layout.

SEQUENTIAL SPATIAL WALKTHROUGH
1. THE ENTRANCE & CURVED FOYER: The Art of the Fluid Transition
• Hook: First impressions should feel like a physical destination, gently steering you away from the outside world.
• The Walkthrough: The apartment immediately establishes its design language right at the threshold. Vitas Design SG replaced typical entry walls with a smooth, curved custom display pillar wrapped in slate-grey laminate and backed by full-height glass display cases with integrated gold frames. Tinted mirror panels stretch across the foyer wall, visually expanding the spatial boundaries while directing foot traffic naturally toward the open-concept communal arena.

2. THE GREAT ROOM: Expansive Living and Curved Ceiling Geography
• Hook: Shared spaces multiply their volume when overhead architecture mirrors the floor plan below.
• The Walkthrough: The main living lounge unfolds into an expansive layout anchored by a curved, recessed drop-ceiling feature outlined with hidden warm LED strip lighting. The entertainment zone features a monolithic, book-matched grey marble TV accent wall underlined by a floating timber media box. A deep tan leather modular sectional sofa defines the active lounge space, shifting smoothly into a formal dining setup that sits bathed in natural daylight from the wide perimeter windows.

3. THE CENTRAL WORK & VANITY HUB: Dedicated Zones Within Fluid Footprints
• Hook: True spatial efficiency creates pockets of quiet productivity without boxing out the rest of the family.
• The Walkthrough: Integrated flawlessly into the transitional layout is a bespoke study and dressing station. Custom full-height matte grey carpentry houses built-in wardrobes alongside open, lit display niches for books and accessories. A large, circular backlit vanity mirror serves as a major design element, casting a soft glow that eliminates harsh shadows and adds visual layers to the narrow walkway leading to the private chambers.

4. THE GALLEY KITCHEN & ISLAND STUDIO: Culinary Precision Behind Smoked Glass
• Hook: Modern kitchen flow requires balancing quick, interactive dining prep with heavy smoke insulation.
• The Walkthrough: The kitchen zone introduces a sleek parallel layout anchored by a clean, stone-wrapped central island counter. High-end built-in ovens and handleless dark timber pantry towers line the primary wall corridor. The wet kitchen area is sealed off by a massive, floor-to-ceiling sliding smoked glass panel system, which allows natural light to filter between the cooking zone and the main living room while trapping heavy culinary fumes during active cooking.

5. THE PRIVATE SANCTUARIES & MONOLITHIC BATHROOMS: Calibrated Textures for Rest
• Hook: Private quarters cultivate tranquility by trading bright surfaces for rich, deeply textured weight.
• The Walkthrough: The master suite utilises neutral, soft sand colours, custom floor-to-ceiling wardrobes, and a plush upholstered bed frame anchored by integrated timber side tables and geometric reading lights. The luxury aesthetic flows straight into the private bathrooms. Clad completely in highly detailed, dark marble-veined wall tiles and clean glass partitions, the vanity showcases a premium ceramic vessel basin sitting on a floating dark laminate counter.

MATERIALS & ACCENTS SPOTLIGHT
To unite the expansive floor plan, the home uses a carefully curated mix of warm organic textures and premium architectural finishes. Polished high-gloss floor tiles reflect daylight across the communal hub, balanced by natural timber details, slate-grey carpentry laminates, and book-matched grey marble slabs. The repetitive use of glowing, hidden LED strips behind mirrors, headboards, and ceiling radiuses provides a soft, warm layer that elevates standard apartment materials into a luxurious environment.

THE VITAS DIFFERENCE
This HDB residence stands as a clear example of what Vitas Design SG brings to Singapore home renovations: custom spaces that respect client identity without compromising on strict spatial performance. By focusing on tailored hidden storage walls, curved ceiling joinery, and smart glass partitions, the studio delivered an elevated home that respects both the financial blueprint and the project timeline.
