THE DESIGN CHALLENGE
Reconfiguring a standard, segmented layout into an expansive, fluid communal space while engineering discreet, massive storage systems that keep the bold colour choices uncluttered.

THE BRIEF & COLLABORATION
Forget the ubiquitous sea of clinical white and muted grey. In a local landscape dominated by safe, predictable palettes, this flat stands as a masterclass in living out loud. The owners approached Vitas Design SG with a uncompromising brief: they wanted a home that felt deeply personal, texturally complex, and structurally unconfined.

By taking down traditional spatial boundaries, the design team co-created a highly interconnected layout that balances high-impact hues with highly functional spatial choreography.

SEQUENTIAL SPATIAL WALKTHROUGH
1. THE ENTRYWAY: Setting the Graphic Tone
The experience begins the moment you step through the front door. Instead of a standard foyer, the entryway immediately establishes the home’s design language. A feature wall painted in solid terracotta red anchors the zone, paired with intricate geometric floor tiles that visually segment the entrance from the main living area. A custom wood-grain console unit offers practical storage without encroaching on the walkway, while a large arch mirror reflects light, instantly expanding the narrow corridor.

2. THE LIVING SPACE: A Bold, Social Hub
Moving past the entry, the home opens into an expansive living zone where the colour block strategy truly shines. The main media wall extends the deep terracotta red, creating a striking backdrop for the low-profile timber TV console.

Opposite, a plush pumpkin-orange sectional sits against a soft peach-toned wall, proving that clashing tones can coexist beautifully when grounded by neutral flooring. A large window fitted with dark horizontal blinds allows the owners to orchestrate natural light, shifting the room's mood from bright and airy to cinematic.

3. THE KITCHEN & DINING ZONE: The Ultimate Open-Plan Hub
The true triumph of this renovation is the seamless transition into the kitchen and dining area. Vitas Design SG knocked down enclosing walls to install a massive, deep emerald green island counter topped with durable, white quartz. This structure serves multiple purposes: a breakfast bar, a food preparation station, and a structural divider.

Overhead, an industrial-style black metal hanging rack displays glassware and spirits, wrapped in faux greenery to soften the clean lines. The back kitchen runs parallel, featuring matching emerald cabinetry, gold hardware, and high-end built-in appliances that keep the workspace clean and streamlined.

4. THE BEDROOM: The Elevated Platform Sanctuary
In the private zone, the design shifts focus toward rest while maintaining the home's colour-blocked identity. The bedroom swaps terracotta for a soothing, deep forest green feature wall.

To maximise the footprint, Vitas Design SG engineered a full-room raised timber platform. The bed sits directly on this structure, while the floor panels lift open to reveal immense hidden storage underneath—perfect for keeping seasonal items completely out of sight. A floor-to-ceiling wardrobe in a light ash laminate blends into the layout, leading directly to a dedicated vanity nook complete with integrated LED lighting.

MATERIALS & ACCENTS SPOTLIGHT
To prevent the intense colour palette from overwhelming the senses, the material choices were carefully calibrated to tie the zones together:
• Rich Emerald & Terracotta Paint: Used as architectural anchors to define distinct zones within an open floor plan.
• Warm Timber Carpentry: From the platform bed to the dining table, the natural wood grains cut through the solid colours, adding organic warmth.
• Brushed Brass Hardware: Gold T-bar handles on the kitchen cabinets provide a refined, jewelry-like accent against the green matte laminate.
• Textured Glass Segregation: A large glass partition panel separates the living area from adjacent study zones, maintaining visual sightlines while ensuring acoustic privacy.

THE VITAS DIFFERENCE
This project perfectly demonstrates how design constraints can be leveraged into triumphs. Rather than letting a standard HDB floor plan dictate the lifestyle, Vitas Design SG customised the architecture around the clients' daily habits and aesthetic preferences. Every hue was chosen with intent, every storage platform engineered for maximum utility, and every line executed with precision—all while respecting the client's timeline and investment.
