THE DESIGN CHALLENGE
Cohesively zoning a sprawling multi-story floor plan to integrate private workspaces, a glass-enclosed balcony pavilion, and distinctly themed multi-generational bedrooms while maintaining a unified luxury narrative.
THE BRIEF & COLLABORATION
Expanding a landed property in Singapore often introduces a complex puzzle: how do you respect the unique lifestyle needs of multiple generations under one roof without fracturing the property's design continuity? For this multi-story residence, Vitas Design SG utilised customised structural carpentry, mirrored surfaces, and architectural lighting to zone each floor. The result is a striking, interconnected home where high-traffic gathering hubs and hyper-private sanctuaries co-exist seamlessly.
SEQUENTIAL SPATIAL WALKTHROUGH: A Vertical Progression of Tailored Volumes
1.THE GRAND FOYER & FORMAL LIVING HALL
The home opens with an immediate statement of scale. The entrance walkway leads directly from a structured car porch into a expansive, high-ceilinged formal lounge.
• The Bookmatched Marble Core: The television feature wall uses an expansive backdrop of heavily veined white marble quartz. Flanked by vertical white fluted columns and a floor-to-ceiling glass display cabinet with warm interior spotlights, this installation anchors the communal hall with an upscale hotel aesthetic.
• Reflective Proportions: Tinted mirror panel accents run along the perimeter corridors, bouncing daylight from the main windows across the polished dark floor finishes to stretch the visual boundaries of the gathering zone.
2. THE DINING HUB & CULINARY GALLEY
Positioned adjacent to the main lounge is a formal dining zone that transitions into a highly efficient culinary workspace.
• The Breakfast Island Bar: A marble-topped breakfast counter partitions the dining area from the kitchen walkways. This counter serves as a casual morning hub and an entertainment bar, complete with custom storage underneath.
• The Mint Cooking Axis: Behind the partition sits a parallel kitchen arrangement dressed in smooth matte mint-green upper cabinetry and white base storage, offering a fresh, energetic pop of colour while keeping utensils concealed.
2. THE GLASS PAVILION BALCONY
Stepping out onto the upper level reveals an innovative architectural extension—a fully enclosed glass balcony pavilion.
• The Skylight Canopy: Structured with a clean geometric frame and a translucent canopy overhead, this zone pulls immense amounts of natural daylight deep into the home.
• The Outdoor Lounge: Fitted with deep wood decking and comfortable outdoor seating, it serves as an airy observation deck that bridges internal comfort with the external property scenery.
3. THE DEDICATED EXECUTIVE WORK SUITES
Remote productivity and focused study are elevated into standalone, distraction-free architectural zones.
• The Long-Form Desk Run: A deep walnut executive desk runs flush against a minimalist white wardrobe wall, providing an expansive workstation for multiple laptops.
• Acoustic Separation: Built-in perimeter shelving houses reference materials neatly, while a clean linear window treatment allows precise control over incoming glare during daytime remote hours.
4. THE MULTI-THEMED PRIVATE QUARTERS
The private suites break away from a singular look to cater directly to individual family identities, utilising space-saving platform elements.
• The Neutral Master Suite: The primary bedroom relies on soft cream and taupe tones. A built-in wardrobe system with handleless sliding panels sits perfectly aligned with an elevated bed frame, maintaining clear transit lines.
• The Graphic Junior Suites: The secondary bedrooms embrace a bolder design direction. One bedroom integrates custom wood-grain headboards and deep slate-blue accent cabinetry, while another incorporates a playful multi-coloured striped motif and integrated display cabinets with contrasting blue border tracking.
5. THE MONOLITHIC STONE & MARBLE BATHROOMS
The bathrooms function as luxurious, resort-style day spas that prioritise premium tactile surfaces.
• The Dark Marble Ensuite: One bathroom utilises heavily veined dark brown marble wall panels paired with a floating stone vanity counter and a surface-mounted white vessel sink.
• The Minimalist Grey Bath: The secondary bath shifts toward an industrial-modern palette, featuring large-format concrete-grey floor tiles, frameless mirrors, and integrated glass shower cubicles with crisp chrome hardware.
MATERIALS & ACCENTS SPOTLIGHT
The spatial narrative across the different floors is bound together beautifully through a disciplined repetition of textures:
• Bookmatched Quartz & Dark Marble Tiles: Deployed in the main living hall and ensuite bathrooms to anchor the home with premium, hard-wearing surfaces.
• High-Gloss Wood Grain & Slatted Panels: Applied continuously across the foyer, media console, and kitchen faces to inject organic warmth.
• Concealed LED Cove Lighting: Tucked behind dropped ceiling frames and custom wardrobe valances to erase harsh shadows and create a floating effect across the carpentry.
THE VITAS DIFFERENCE
This landed property demonstrates that multi-generational design doesn't require compromising on visual character. By treating each floor as a unique functional volume while maintaining core material linkages, Vitas Design SG delivered a striking, highly cohesive residence tailored perfectly to the owners' lifestyle, budget, and timeline.
