THE DESIGN CHALLENGE
Streamlining a linear layout while balancing warm, active family zones with moody, utilitarian spaces.
THE BRIEF & COLLABORATION
When the homeowners approached Vitas Design SG, they sought a home that felt expansive despite its standard linear layout. The objective was clear: eliminate visual clutter, integrate dedicated spaces for family hobbies, and introduce a sleek, modern palette.
Working closely with the owners, our design team remapped the floor plan. We utilised continuous custom carpentry to transition seamlessly between communal and functional zones, creating a cohesive narrative that maximises every square inch of this Singapore residence.
SEQUENTIAL SPATIAL WALKTHROUGH
1. THE ENTRYWAY & FOYER
The transition into the home sets a disciplined tone. Rather than leaving the entry wall bare, custom floor-to-ceiling cabinetry anchors the space. A dedicated niche accommodates an upright Pearl River piano, ensuring music is integrated into daily life without encroaching on walking paths. Across from it, a built-in sideboard serves as a display cabinet, framed by a striking geometric brass pendant light that defines the dining boundary.
2. THE LIVING & COMMUNAL SPACE
Moving deeper into the apartment, the living area balances light and shadow.
• The Media Feature Wall: A continuous, curved metallic grey entertainment unit wraps gracefully around the hallway corner. This eliminates sharp edges in tight pathways and integrates deep, hidden push-to-open storage.
• Lighting Strategy: Inset cove lighting runs along the length of the window wall, casting a soft glow that complements the bright floor tiles and expands the perception of height.
• Spatial Balance: A generous plush sectional faces the television console, leaving a wide, unobstructed central aisle that maintains an airy, unrestricted flow toward the balcony windows.
3. THE CULINARY HUB (Kitchen & Service Yard)
In stark contrast to the bright living areas, the enclosed kitchen embraces a bold, industrial-leaning luxury.
• Seamless Finishes: Hairline-metallic laminates wrap the upper and lower cabinetry, bouncing light across the workspace.
• Durability Meets Style: Deep black quartz countertops featuring subtle gold flecks pair with a matching dark glass backsplash, offering an easy-to-clean, high-end culinary environment.
• Integrated Appliances: The refrigerator sits on a raised masonry plinth next to a dedicated oven tower, aligning perfectly with the cabinetry lines to prevent visual breaks.
4. PRIVATE SANCTUARIES & BATHROOMS
The private quarters focus strictly on rest and personal rejuvenation.
• Master Bedroom: Warm herringbone parquet flooring injects organic texture into the room. A full-height wardrobe with brushed metallic laminate and slim brass inlays echoes the design language of the living room console.
• Dual Bathroom Concepts: The bathrooms showcase two distinct identities. The common bath utilises light, heavily veined marble-look porcelain tiles for a bright and pristine feel. Meanwhile, the en-suite master bath opts for a dramatic, dark charcoal slate aesthetic paired with a floating stone vanity top and an oversized vessel sink.
MATERIALS & ACCENTS SPOTLIGHT
The design language of this home is beautifully unified through a curated mix of textures and surfaces that balance aesthetic appeal with daily functionality:
• Curved Metallic Grey Laminates: Used extensively throughout the communal areas, these seamless surfaces soften sharp corners in high-traffic pathways, conceal deep storage compartments, and create a continuous visual flow across the linear layout.
• Black Quartz & Charcoal Slate Tiles: Dominating the kitchen and master en-suite, these deep, dramatic surfaces create a bold, industrial-leaning contrast. They establish a sophisticated mood while offering highly durable, easy-to-clean environments for daily utility.
• Herringbone Timber Parquet: Layered exclusively within the master bedroom, this classic geometric flooring injects natural warmth and rich organic texture into the private quarters, while naturally providing excellent acoustic dampening for rest.
THE VITAS DIFFERENCE
Great interior design is not about forcing a rigid aesthetic onto a floor plan; it is about listening to how a family lives and tailoring the architecture to support them. From the curved edges of the main console to the meticulous layout of the kitchen, this project proves that small-to-medium footprints can achieve grand-scale luxury through precise craftsmanship and intelligent space planning.
