THE DESIGN CHALLENGE
Creating a high-capacity, multi-sensory family entertainment hub that maximises visual impact within a commercial mall unit, balancing intense safety regulations with an immersive, fluid customer journey that builds immediate parental trust.
THE BRIEF & COLLABORATION: Engineering Joy and Trust in the Retail Environment
When the creators of Whoose Party Indoor Playground set out to build a premier indoor family experience center in Singapore, they chose to look past typical chaotic playground setups. Co-created in partnership with Vitas Design SG, the concept treats recreational play as an architectural discipline. The layout systematically moves visitors through custom ticketing hubs, high-energy physical zones, sensory learning pits, and dedicated celebration spaces, proving that commercial spaces can be highly functional while sparking child-like wonder.
SEQUENTIAL SPATIAL WALKTHROUGH
1. The Dynamic Facade and Reception: Securing the First Touchpoint
• Hook: Commercial success begins at the storefront window, converting foot traffic into immediate curiosity.
• The Walkthrough: Located within a bustling retail complex, the entrance features massive clear glass panels framed by sharp black profiles, offering full visibility into the colourful internal ecosystem. The customer counter utilises soft, radiused carpentry with a clean white countertop and a warm timber under-base. Bold coral wall arches frame the rear shelving, establishing an inviting, organised administrative hub that streamlines check-ins and builds instant consumer confidence.
2. THE MAIN ARENA: Kinetic Energy and Multi-Level Master Planning
• Hook: High-traffic play structures require strategic sightlines to keep children engaged and parents at ease.
• The Walkthrough: The heart of the playground features a massive ball pit anchored by a pastel pink multi-tier structural maze. The design team integrated whimsical, custom-clad columns shaped like mushrooms alongside interactive digital projection projection walls. Bright yellow and pink wave slides dominate the vertical profile, dropping children safely into thousands of colourful balls. This high-density play footprint maximises every vertical inch of the mall ceiling volume without compromising perimeter movement lanes.
3. THE SENSORY AND CREATIVE PITS: Soft Transitions for Focused Learning
• Hook: A well-balanced play environment alternates high-energy zones with spaces for quiet discovery.
• The Walkthrough: Transitioning away from the main ball pit, a dedicated sensory zone uses rich deep blue wall paneling adorned with white picket fence trim. Instead of standard plastic elements, the pit is filled with smooth wooden cubes that encourage tactile, unstructured building play. This zone offers a lower sensory threshold, allowing children to transition into independent problem-solving while giving parents a clean, structured boundary to sit and supervise.
4. THE DIGITAL ARCADE AND EVENT SUITE: Maximising Secondary Revenue Paths
• Hook: Smart commercial blueprints ensure secondary operational spaces feel premium, not added on.
• The Walkthrough: Further inside the unit, a digital racing zone incorporates neon red custom metal framing and miniature tracking paths for interactive arcade machines. Adjacent to the tracks is the private party room. Clad in a clean white and pastel wallpaper finish, this enclosed space features dedicated task lighting and a modular banquet table setup, creating a highly photogenic backdrop for family milestones while insulating the party from external noise.
MATERIALS & ACCENTS SPOTLIGHT
To withstand thousands of weekly visitors, the material choices prioritise high-grade, easily sanitised commercial finishes. Durable graphic vinyl flooring in high-contrast black-and-white stripes delineates transit corridors from active play zones, while heavy-duty impact foam padding wraps all structural pillars. The palette avoids aggressive primary colours, relying instead on a highly curated, sophisticated blend of soft lavender, coral, mint, and natural timber laminates to create a family space that looks visually balanced from every angle.
THE VITAS DIFFERENCE
The completion of Whoose Party Indoor Playground showcases how Vitas Design SG masterfully balances strict commercial building codes, child safety protocols, and brand differentiation. By treating functional joinery, spatial acoustics, and structural play paths as cohesive elements, the studio delivered a high-earning, high-joy retail destination on time and within scope.
