THE DESIGN CHALLENGE
Integrating dedicated spatial functionalities—including a walk-in wardrobe, a home office, and a prominent ancestral altar—without compromising the fluid, airy expanse of a typical Singaporean family footprint.
THE BRIEF & COLLABORATION
Every residential footprint tells a story of evolving lifestyle demands. For this specific project located in Singapore, the homeowners approached Vitas Design SG with a distinct mandate: cultivate a home that accommodates diverse daily rhythms under one roof. They required a dedicated work-from-nothing office space, an open-concept culinary layout, a private walk-in dressing suite, and a dignified setting for religious iconography.
Instead of building rigid concrete partitions that would fragment the square footage, our team co-created a design solution rooted in concealment and continuity. By utilising spatial orientation and intelligent carpentry rather than standard drywall barriers, we established an interconnected home that feels vastly more expansive than its physical borders.
SEQUENTIAL SPATIAL WALKTHROUGH
1. The Entryway & Devotional Foyer
• Smart Design Choices: Upon entry, the home balances cultural tradition with streamlined modernity. The bespoke altar is framed within deeply rich timber carpentry, incorporating built-in warm LED illumination that honours the sacred space. Directly adjacent, a structural partition wall clad in light oak fluted panels anchors the area while guiding foot traffic naturally toward the communal core.
• The Value: Rather than allowing a traditional altar to clash with modern aesthetics, custom integration elevates the feature into an intentional architectural anchor.
2. The Living & Communal Lounge
• Smart Design Choices: The living area utilises a high-contrast palette of crisp whites, stone textures, and warm woods. A low-profile floating television console rests against a book-matched marble feature wall, creating a clean focal point. Overhead, recessed linear lighting paths run parallel to a classic ceiling fan, visually lengthening the room.
• The Value: By omitting bulky floor furniture and keeping storage floating off the ground, the communal zone retains maximum floor area for family gathering and relaxation.
3. The Multi-Purpose Dining & Command Center
• Smart Design Choices: Serving as the literal bridge between the social and culinary zones, the extended island counter doubles as a dining table and home workstation. Overhead, minimalist pendant lights with timber accents cast precise down-lighting. Behind the seating area, a seamless wall of fluted wood panels hides a massive storage configuration and disguises the entrance to the bedrooms
• The Value: This zone maximises functional efficiency. It transitions effortlessly from a breakfast bar to a professional zoom-call backdrop, keeping household clutter completely out of sight.
4. The Open-Concept Kitchen
• Smart Design Choices: A masterclass in linear efficiency, the kitchen layout relies on a soft sage green palette for the lower cabinetry balanced by pale wood grains above. The countertops and full-height backsplash utilise a resilient, subtly veined quartz slab that mirrors the marble elements in the living room. Under-cabinet LED strips illuminate the entire workspace uniformly.
• The Value: Removing structural walls allows natural light from the service yard to filter deep into the interior, making the cooking zone feel communal rather than isolated.
5. The Private Zones & Walk-In Suite
• Smart Design Choices: In the master suite, the bedroom and wardrobe areas are divided by a dual-sided timber-laminate partition wall that functions as a structural headboard. The sleeping zone features a deep navy leather frame contrasted against geometric grey bedding. On the reverse side, a glass-encased walk-in wardrobe with interior profile lighting mimics a boutique showroom, complete with a floating vanity counter and matching stool.
• The Value: This architectural split grants the luxury of a separate dressing room without sacrificing the breezy, open layout of the bedroom chamber.
MATERIALS & ACCENTS SPOTLIGHT
To establish visual cohesion across the entire floor plan, Vitas Design SG implemented a disciplined material strategy:
• Tactile Fluted Wall Panel: Used to mask door frames and storage units while introducing vertical texture.
• Sage Green & Warm Oak Laminates: A refreshing twist on the classic neutral palette that bridges the gap between organic Japandi styles and urban luxury.
• Polished Quartz Surfaces: High-durability elements that add reflective brightness and clean lines to high-traffic areas.
THE VITAS DIFFERENCE
A successful home renovation is not merely about aesthetic transformation; it is about spatial optimisation that honours the client's budget, timeline, and daily lifestyle. This project illustrates how clever carpentry can resolve complex functional needs without overcrowding a home.
